About the Author

Angelina Dumarot

Autism Advocate & Changemaker

From a brown-eyed girl once left behind in the classroom to a determined mother advocating for children with special needs, Angelina Dumarot  is a seasoned communications and crisis strategist, proud mother to a son on the autism spectrum, and debut children’s book author.

This summer, the Salvadoran immigrant will release her debut children’s book, “Franky(sito)’s World”—a warm, heartfelt introduction to autism inspired by her son Frank’s diagnosis and their family’s journey toward understanding, acceptance and the importance of inclusion. Told through the eyes of a curious 7-year-old boy growing up in a multigenerational Latino household, the story celebrates neurodiversity, cultural pride, and the power of being seen.

Self-published and deeply personal, the book reflects the values that have guided Angelina’s life: hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to lifting up voices that have too often been silenced.

In the 80s, Angelina arrived in Los Angeles, California from Soyapango, El Salvador as an undocumented child—unable to read, write, or speak English until the age of seven. A proud product of LA’s public schools, she began her education in LAUSD while helping her mother clean houses, and went on to become the first in her family to graduate college.

She earned a journalism degree from California State University, Northridge, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Sundial, and began her career as a reporter, working for notable publications such as the Ventura County Star, Orange County Register, and Los Angeles Daily News.

Today, she is a director of communications for the City of Los Angeles. For more than a decade, Angelina has led public messaging efforts that uplift working families, expand access to care, and amplify the stories of immigrant and underserved communities.

Angelina continues to write from the heart, using her personal journey to connect with others and inspire change. She lives with her husband James, their daughter Alondra Rose, Frank–the inspiration behind “Franky(sito)’s World,” and their chocolate Labrador Kylo.
